Solar for Non-Profits: Run on Sun's SunCorp®
Non-profit organizations—schools, churches, and other entities—are often big consumers of electricity but because of their non-profit status they cannot take advantage of federal tax benefits that can reduce the cost of adding solar by as much as 55%.
Run on Sun's SunCorp® changes all of that. We can work with you and your existing donor base to tailor a system that will dramatically reduce your electric bills without any out-of-pocket expense.
Let’s look at an example – suppose a private school wants to offset 70% of its energy bill that it is currently paying to SCE. (For this example, we will assume the school is under the GS-1 rate structure.)
Using Run on Sun’s SCE rate model, for pre-solar usage of 4,000 – 5,000 kWh/month, our private school will pay $9,900 this year in energy costs. Installing a 25kW solar power system will reduce their bills by 70%, resulting in an annual savings of $7,000. Based on these numbers, SCE will provide a PBI rebate payment of $70,500. |
However, the school will need to payout between $170,000 and $200,000 to install the system and payback does not occur for at least twelve years.
Thus, people who would have donated funds to the school anyway, fund the solar power project and see a significant rate of return – as high as 10% or more – as well as a payoff on the investment in half the time (typically five to seven years).
